What is 8D (8-Layer Stacked) Chess?
Instead of a single $8 \times 8$ board, the battle plays out across 8 stacked boards ($8 \times 8 \times 8$ matrix = 512 total squares). Positions are identified as (File A-H, Rank 1-8, Layer L1-L8).
3D Movement Mechanics:
đ° Rook
Moves straight along files ($X$), ranks ($Y$), OR vertically through layers ($Z$).
đ Bishop
Moves diagonally along any 2-axis plane ($XY$, $XZ$, $YZ$) or 3D diagonal diagonals ($\Delta X = \Delta Y = \Delta Z$).
đ´ Knight
Moves in 3D "L" shapes: 2 steps in any 1 axis and 1 step in a perpendicular axis.
đ Queen
Combines full Rook and Bishop movement capabilities across all 26 spatial directions.
â King
Moves 1 square in any of the 26 surrounding 3D coordinates.
â Pawn
Advances forward along its rank OR vertically down/up levels towards opponent's side. Captures diagonally across 3D coordinates.
Starting Positions:
White pieces start on Layer 1 (L1) at Rank 1 & 2. Black pieces start on Layer 8 (L8) at Rank 7 & 8.
